Serving and Supporting Pinellas County’s LGBTQ Elders

EPIC Generations was created to educate the community and respond to the challenges facing LGBTQ elders in Pinellas County. Many of these elders are often invisible within mainstream and their own LGBTQ communities. They are less likely to receive family support and assistance in meeting their financial, health and housing needs. And they more often experience significant physical and mental disparities compared to their non-minority counterparts.

EPIC Generations will provide:

  • Support services of visiting and peer telephone reassurance
  • LGBTQ elder social activities
  • LGBTQ cultural competency training for aging providers and community groups about special needs of LGBTQ seniors

Friendly Caller Program

A Simple Phone Call can Make Someone’s Day

Say Hello to EPIC Generations Friendly Caller Program. Our program will foster multigenerational connections in the LGBTQ community. The Friendly Caller Program provides social connection and service referrals to our LGBTQ older adults through regular phone calls. The phone calls provide invaluable connections between trained volunteers and participants by offering mutual social support, sharing meaningful dialogues and promoting lasting friendships.

Social isolation affects 1 in 5 elder adults. The goal of regular calls is to alleviate stress and improve health in our clients. When LGBTQ elders engage in regular ongoing socialization with caring volunteers, this program becomes an effective means of preventative care.

Some of the possible long term benefits of the program include:

  • Opportunities to talk with like-minded people
  • More years at home
  • Improved psychosocial wellbeing
  • Access and referrals to additional community resources

We welcome you to sign up today for this opportunity to connect and build our intergenerational LGBTQ community. Our Program Coordinator, Susan Talbott, is available for questions at (727) 328-5524 or SusanTalbott@EmpathHealth.org.

Information submitted to the EPIC Generations Program will not be shared or distributed except for names and phone number to match volunteers with clients. Demographic information on the forms below are optional, but encouraged to provide you with the best possible match.
